Kostas Athanasakis, an economist specializing in health, is an Assistant Professor of Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment at the Department of Public Health Policies of the School of Public Health, University of West Attica.
His main subject in teaching and research, is the evaluation of health technology, the economic evaluation of interventions in health, pharmacoenomy and the policy of medicine. In addition to the above, his research interests also extend to the financing of health systems, the economic analysis of health markets and public finance. He is the author of over 250 articles and abstracts in international and national journals as well as 14 books, in the broader field of research in economics and health policy.
He is a member, among others, of the National Committee on Vaccinations and the Expert Group on the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) of the National Bioethics Commission. He has served as President of the Research Review Committee of the 17th and 18th Annual European Congress of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and Advisor – External Researcher of the World Bank on health issues.
He is also an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care (IJTAHC) (Cambridge University Press).
